  2. Contact National Careers Service (A

Contact national careers services (In the UK the National Career Service is the one to go for) to have 80k hours mentioned on their website, and in publications etc.
Seems like an easy win as you would be fitting into a already used service, with a known, receptive audience.

  4. Article on Outsourcing

    Hello 80,000 Hours,

After reading your article on here about web designing I have become interested in it. However, it seems to me that is a high risk job to be outsourced. Will all web designing, web development, and programming jobs be outsourced or will those jobs always exist in the USA and the UK?

  5. Timer to optimize time spent on website

Make the message immediately tangible — show a timer indicating average time spent by a visitor and challenge the visitor to use that time optimally. "You're going to spend 60 seconds on this website - what should you read?" — focus on funneling them via low-effort questions and cues towards key articles, information, and discovering what will engage and interest them

  8. Benefits of developing self replicating technology exceeds all other possibilities.

If it takes 10 years of high investment to develop a set of machines that can duplicate itself and deliver a large and increasing set of goods and services ( from mining to manufacture to delivery) and it takes 2 weeks to produce a copy, then within 2 further years, there can be one for every person. That outcome exceeds anything else.
It ends poverty (every person has automated systems to create whatever they responsibly choose).
It allows solutions to climate change (at several different levels - putting one such machine on the moon allows us to develop space technology…

  11. Ideas for less competent people

I would love to use my career for good but I'm not competent enough to do most of the jobs suggested by 80,000 Hours. What do I do?

  12. Career Review: Corporate Philanthropy

Career Review: Corporate Philanthropy - I would love to see a write up in the career reviews section of the role of those of us in corporate philanthropy, social impact, sustainability, CSR - lots of terms of how to use corporate resources for good. Obviously it would vary across industry and company - Greenwashing Oil companies v Patagonia - but it seems like a good addition. Thanks!

  13. Promote "Hypothes.is" conversations on the podcast transcripts to get an interesting dialogue going

A good way to have an open dialogue on the concepts discussed in the podcast:

The Hypothes.is tool and browser plugin allows you to comment and share comments directly on any page, referring to specific text on the page (and loads of cool features).

(I've no stake in the nonprofit Hypothes.is group, I just think it's a great tool.)

As an example I started a conversation on the Chalmers podcast transcript https://t.co/osJmCAsQig?amp=1. I tagged all my comments with "80kdiscussions" so you can look these all up here: https://hypothes.is/users/daaronr?q=tag%3A80kdiscussions

Can you promote this to users and on Twitter? I think…

  15. ( @Peter Hartree: Wiki spam page: http://wiki.80000hours.org/index.php/Special:Contributions/Welix8

    http://wiki.80000hours.org/index.php/Special:Contributions/Welix8

    Very low priority.

Peter Hartree or another of the three wiki operators⁽¹⁾ (Ben Todd, Carl Shulman) should delete user “Welix8” and his ‘contributions‘.

  16. Using an emerging personality system in career guidance

There is a research team based in Portland, Oregon that has been working on a personality system for the past five years. They are known under the name Objective Personality. You should look into using some of the research from their system in career guidance. Their system has huge applications in AI, institutional decision-making, and career guidance. They have a YouTube channel called DaveSuperPowers.
