  1. Gene Editing

I think that generic engineering is a currently under-recognized issue. I think that in your rankings of global priority areas, there is a significant gap that leaves out this very important issue. To put it briefly, in same vein as bioweapon risk, this technology democratizes the ability to cause cataclysmic destruction analogous to nuclear weapon risk by orders of magnitude. For instance, small changes in bee genomes reducing reproducibility (as has been discussed in the context of mosquitos) could have as much damage to the global food system as the a nuclear winter would now. The social and economic repercussions…

  3. Create a career review about antibiotic resistance research?

Antibiotic resistance could cause 10 million deaths a year by 2050 (https://www.antimicrobialsworkinggroup.org/antimicrobial-resistance). Although this may be considered within the field of biomedical research, could the potential impact of reducing the dangers of antibiotic resistance merit its own career review on this website? Could this research tie into the existing profile on factory farming?

  4. EA careers that mesh well with parenthood. Profiles of people with high impact who were also raising kids.

There are a lot of parents (especially mothers) who take a career break or scale back on the hours worked in order to raise a family. How can these people go on to have a significant impact? Please profile people who had a large impact without neglecting their families. The first example that comes to mind is Jane Jacobs. What to do when the bottlenecks are limited time and career capital. Maybe talk about the role of volunteering in building civic society and the backbone of communities, the role of volunteering vs paid work.

  6. Contact National Careers Service (A

Contact national careers services (In the UK the National Career Service is the one to go for) to have 80k hours mentioned on their website, and in publications etc.
Seems like an easy win as you would be fitting into a already used service, with a known, receptive audience.

  7. Let people add comments onto the article body, similar to Google Docs comments

By introducing a Highlight & Comment feature you could tap into the multiple perspectives and wisdom of your audience.

For example, when reading the below statement in 'Part 1', I wanted to add that it might be because of a sample bias and self selection -- i.e., those who are not receptive to stress are the ones ending pursing and excelling in those jobs:
"One puzzle is that studies of high ranking government and military leaders found they had lower levels of stress hormones and less anxiety, despite sleeping fewer hours, managing more people and having higher occupational demands.

  8. Evaluating the impact capabilities of Urban Planners

Much of the work of a planner requires mediation between major facets of society: government, citizenry, and private interests. It's both policy and constructing the built environment, which has major repercussions on community psyche, health, sustainability, and longevity. For how involved planning is in daily life, it goes widely unrecognized. Can this be examined on the career page?

  10. It's Easier Than You Think

It's easy to solve most health problems. For instance, colloidal silver can eliminate virtually a ALL bacterial and viral diseases. Other diseases are easily solved at low cost. See the book "Extraordinary Healthcare." Visit the site RebuildHealth.com Read the blog.

  11. Which ideas were considered but discarded?

Would love a list of "trashed" ideas, and reasons why they were trashed. It would also give us a fuller view of the careers already covered by 80,000 Hours.

  12. Make this work: https://80000hours.org/job-board/feed/

An RSS feed would be very helpful to keep track of new offers (and it doesn't work) https://80000hours.org/job-board/feed/

  14. Community College and Degree Reviews

    Hello 80,000 Hours,

I'm Jacob. I am a community college student who constantly reads through your works to help myself decided on my educational outputs and career ideas. I wanted to make two suggestions.

One, could 80,000 post a review on community college in their blog? The pros, cons, and 80,000 Hours overall thoughts on community college?

Also, much like how you all have a career review page could you have a degree review page? Instead of listing out jobs it would list different BA degrees (English, Business, etc.) MA degrees, and PHDS? I know the career reviews has some…

  16. Great impact could be had by fostering collective impact

Instead of focusing purely on fields that can be packed with clear evidence, people with the right skill set could have a disproportionate impact by acting as facilitators of various organisations operating in their local region towards similar goals and coordinating their efforts and encouraging collective learning and impact. https://ssir.org/articles/entry/collective_impact

  17. Add 4Ocean, The Ocean Cleanup, and Ecosia to your list of high impact companies

Tackling the world's plastic problem should be treated as one of top priorities for the environment, our health and the whole planet. 4Ocean and The Ocean Cleanup are great companies which are both providing solutions in this area. And the environmental damage from deforestation is being addressed by Ecosia, and I believe these are all great companies to work for.

  19. Potential typo on https://80000hours.org/career-guide/introduction/

    In paragraph 3:

'To answer this question, we set up an independent non-profit and did over five years alongside Oxford academics. Our only aim is to help you have the greatest possible positive impact.'

You may have intended 'did over five years of research alongside...'

  20. Translate 80000 hours to other languages

...starting with the content and languages that would have the most impact, of course. Why not opening a section for that in your website?
I would gladly volunteer for translations to the languages I am fluent in.
