  1. Podcast addict (android version) shows error while streaming or downloading episodes

It shows error:The server hosting the podcast (feedproxy.gogle.com) is refusing to respond to the request.. I know I can access it on soundcloud, but it will be great if you can fix this.

I’d like to fix this ASAP. Can you give me more information – is this still happening? What app are you using so I can try to replicate? What is the exact feed address that is refusing to respond? :)

  2. Add a simple way to point out errata & typos in posts (+ errata for the Julia Galef podcast transcript)

(Solution might be the same as https://80000hourshelp.uservoice.com/forums/220029-feedback-forum/suggestions/6940000-get-annotate-able-texts )
This might improve quality, as only a few people who notice problems make their way here, and neither this feedback & ideas page nor the Disqus comments section seem the right place for a typo thread.

For now, here are my nitpicks for the Julia Galef podcast transcript -- https://80000hours.org/2017/09/is-it-time-for-a-new-scientific-revolution-julia-galef-on-how-to-make-humans-smarter/ -- not so much because I'm a stickler for accuracy but because some of them seem like they could impede understanding:

  3. What to do when you don't have "options" in Mind?

The career guide / quiz seem to assume a lot more clarity of options and purpose going into this than I expected. Almost like I need to be most of the way to deciding before I bother with 80000.
I don't know what options I have, because it's a fine line between none and so many vague / weak hopes or ideas. Without clarity of my options I can't even begin to gain value from your guide/quiz.
    What will you change?

  5. How he could change his career.

I know a man that changed his career and he has big impact even 30 years after his Death in two countries.first he was a scientist but....

    when he was young....
"He was coming back with his mother. There was a poor person who had no warm clothes, trembling on the street corner. It was a cold winter, and he was empty-handed. In the morning, Mostafa became severely ill. The night before, he could not bring himself to sleep at home in a warm bed"

  7. Is happiness in the eye of the beholder?

    Hello!
Thank you so much for your work!
    I have one wish:
Could you please address in your research and guidance the tension between objective and subjective happiness?
From a pure economic point of view, I agree with your attitude and analysis of where it is best to put our effort and resources. However, I believe that happiness has quite a bit to do with one's psychological state of mind, point of view and perception of "reality", rather than with the "objective" conditions of their "reality".
Surely one's basic needs have to be fulfilled in order for them to be…

  8. The "Gap yah" page and video doesn't resonate with non-UK people

Hi, I'm someone from the USA, and when I saw the "gap yah" video and read the guide web page that had it, I did not understand the humor at all, and because I was confused I found it off-putting or misaligned with the professionalism of the 80000 hours site. Please do something to change it so that people from other parts of the USA understand your message.

  9. Contact effective idea-explaining channels in Youtube

Contact idea explaining Youtube channels like Vox, big think, VSauce or any that explains stuff to their audience and that align with your views to explain your organization and your research to them to convince them to explain those things to their audiences in their characteristic ways

Basically reach out for groups or persons that have larger influences to try to believe in your views and spreads those ideas further, either online or in person (although it's arguably easier online)

Or try to get their followers interested and make them ask for that content from the content creators
    Or even…

  10. Career planning tool date field is backward for americans.

    In here:
"When are you next going to review your plan?"
The date field is DD/MM/YYYY, which Americans will find backwards. The international standard that avoids this is putting year first YYYY/MM/DD

  11. Collaboration with and/or research checking of Paul Hawken's Drawdown book

Paul Hawken's suggestions of how to effectively move into the 22nd century are intriguing, and I would love to know how a crosscheck of his assumptions and research prove or disprove his conclusions.

  12. The video in the "take a break" page of the decision tool is not available in Canada

...and probably other countries. Maybe you should replace it with a video that is available everywhere?

  14. Add agronomist to career options

Nobel Peace Prize winner Norman Borlaug is considered to have saved more lives than any other person in history by developing wheat varieties for impoverished countries. More innovations are needed in agronomy, especially for Africa. GMO crops also benefit the environment by allowing farmers to produce more food on less land with less pesticides.

  15. Stories of exploration

I feel that exploration is one of the most hard to internalize pieces of advice and can be a tough bullet to bite. The natural inclination for most people is to stick with familiar things and go for the option that is most prestigious.

I think that reading some stories of people who've benefitted from exploration would be helpful for overcoming this.

  16. Add Trauma to problem profiles.

Adverse childhood experiences (ACE) impact health as well as behavior to such a degree that a high ACE score can shorten life for up to 20 years. The economic toll estimated is $124 billion. The effects of trauma on society are huge and complex: intergenerational circles of violence, associations with political extremism, addiction, etc. Parenting and anti-violence trainings, advocacy, financial support as well as mental health services need to be tested in their efficacy for preventing ACEs from happening, as well as reducing their impact. more info: http://vetoviolence.cdc.gov/apps/aces/

  18. Clarify what you're measuring

It seems like "cost vs. impact" is the main measurement for the effectiveness of a cause, but how are you prioritizing "impact"? (ie: reduced deaths, economic growth, environmental healing).
Specifically, more research has been done on the economics of happiness, and have you been successful in quantifying the impact certain causes have on happiness? Many "first-world" causes (ie: Big Brothers/Big Sisters, foster care, etc.) have more to do with increasing a person's self-worth than health or economic concerns. While these don't rank high in your models (presumably because of the cost of these programs with lower quantifiable results), the personal…

  19. Improve Factory Farming Page

I've noticed that factory farming ranks very high on the list of problems, and I definitely agree that it should be where it is, if not higher. However, it only touches on one aspect of factory farming, ignoring some of its worst effects. For example, the factory farming page does not mention the impact on global warming, deforestation, other environmental issues, factory farm workers, and much, much more. The page should be updated with info on all of this, not just the abused animals (though that is extremely important as well).
